Professional Values Inventory
Clarify What You Stand For. Lead From It.
Authentic leadership begins with knowing what you stand for (George, 2003). Your professional values are not abstractions — they are the principles that shape every decision you make, every boundary you hold, and every relationship you build at work. When your values are clear and explicitly named, you lead with greater consistency, credibility, and confidence (Lencioni, 2002). This inventory invites you to identify, rank, and reflect on the values at the core of your professional identity.
Step 1 — Review and Rank Your Values
Review the 20 professional values below. Rate each from 1 to 5: 1 = Not central · 3 = Moderately central · 5 = Essential.
Step 2 — Identify Your Top Three
Looking at your ratings above, identify the three values that received the highest scores.
Step 3 — Values in Action
For each top value, write one concrete example of how that value shows up in your current role (Rokeach, 1973).
Step 4 — My Professional Values Statement
Using your reflections above, complete the following statement.
